Wolves eli Joensuun Amerikkalaisen jalkapallon Kerho - Wolves ry on vuonna 1986 perustettu Amerikkalaisen Jalkapallon seura. Wolves on ollut aktiivisena vuosina 1985-95 ja 2009-
Wolvesin ensimmäinen harjoituspeli pelattiin huhtikuussa 1986 Imatralla hiekkakentällä Imatran Flashia vastaan ja kesällä 1986 Wolves osallistui ensimmäisen kerran II-divisioonaan. Seuraavana vuonna joukkue nousi I-divisioonaan ja pelasi siellä kaudet 1987, 1988 ja 1989.
Wolves osallistui myös alle 20-vuotiaiden juniorien ensimmäiseen SM-sarjaan. Joukkueessa oli myös muutamia pelaajia Imatran Flashista. Wolves saavutti sarjassa SM-hopeaa vuonna 1987. Wolves piti 1990-luvun alussa yhden välivuoden pelaajapulan vuoksi ja joutui luopumaan sarjapaikastaan I-divisoonassa. Välivuoden jälkeen joukkue kokoontui uudelleen ja Wolves palasi II-divisoonaan. 90-luvun alussa joukkuetta valmensi Jimmy "Bluesman" Lawson. Seuran toiminta päättyi toistaiseksi vuonna 1996.
Vuonna 2009 seuran toiminta on taas käynnistynyt uudestaan. Kesällä 2009 joukkuetta ryhtyi kasaamaan Kouvolasta Joensuuhun muuttanut Jari Ruusunen. Ensimmäiset harjoitukset pidettiin heinäkuussa 2009 valmentaja Marko Kinnusen johdolla Joensuulaisille tutulla paikalla, Kirkonmäellä. Joukkue ilmoittautui, pienen pohdinnan jälkeen, syyskuussa 2009 aloitettuun III-divisioonaan. Heinäkuussa joukkueen valmennusrinkiin liittyi Petteri Halonen (alkuperäinen Wolves-pelaaja) sekä David Williams. Davidille annettiin vastuulleen hyökkäyksen koordinointi sekä valmentaminen, Marko Kinnusen keskittyessä valmentamaan linjamiehiä sekä koordinoimaan puolustusta ja samalla Petteri Halonen valmensi puolustuksen takakentän miehiä. Paketti siis alkoi olla kasassa Wolvesin uutta tulemista varten. Yli 30 uutta ja innokasta pelaajaa sekä kokeneet valmentajat. Näillä eväillä olikin todella hyvä lähteä hakemaan ensimmäisiä pelikokemuksia alkavasta divisioonasta ja rakentamaan joukkuetta tulevaisuuden haasteisiin.
III-divisioonaan ilmoittautui mukaan aluksi Joensuu Wolves, Jyväskylä Pirates, Lahti Jets ja Lieksa Legioona. Lieksa kuitenkin perui osallistumisensa hieman ennen divisioonan alkua. III-Divisioonan ensimmäinen turnaus oli Joensuussa. Joensuulaisten hermoillessa ja totullessa peliin Jyväskylä voitti joukkueiden ensimmäisen kohtaamisen. Turnauksen toisessa Wolves-pelissä, kentällä nähtiinkin jo aivan toisenlainen joukkue ja Lahti kärsi Wolvesille tappion. Wolves oli siis saavuttanut ensimmäisen voittonsa jo toisessa pelissä. Tästä alkoikin sitten Joensuulaisten voittoputki. Jyväskylän turnauksessa viikkoa myöhemmin Wolves voitti molemmat pelinsä Lahtea ja Jyväskylää vastaan. Ja sama toistui myöhemmin Lahdessa järjestetyssä turnauksessa. 13 vuoden tauon jälkeen Joensuu Wolves on aloittanut toiminnan todella vauhdikkaasti. Kuudesta pelistä 5 voittoa ja III-divisioonan mestaruus.
Wolves valmistautuu tällä hetkellä kauteen 2010. Joukkue pelaa kauden II-divisioonassa. Tulevaisuus näyttää miten Wolvesin sarjassa käy. Odotukset joukkueelta ovat todella kovat. Off-season harjoittelut on jo aloitettu ja harjoitusringissä on tutut 20-30 pelaajaa/kerta.

We Are Just Getting Started.
As the Joensuu Wolves football organization approaches our third season in Finnish American football, I have to look back on our first two seasons with great emotion as we continue our climb to the top.
The first season in 2009 was an incredible experience. The Wolves went from zeros to heroes in just a six game season. Although most people involved in Finnish American football did not think our men could win even one game, they were completely shocked when we lost only our first game and then ran the table to finish the season with five wins and a Division III Championship.
2010 would prove to be an even more monumental year than 2009 for two main reasons. First, the Wolves once again defied all odds by moving into Division II and advancing to the playoffs for the National Championship. Although we were ultimately defeated in the playoffs, our statement had been made loud and clear: The Joensuu Wolves are here to stay, and we are here to compete. We are on a march to greatness, and no matter what people say or believe, we will achieve our goals because We Believe.
The second milestone was the creation of our second team, the Joensuu She-Wolves. The She-Wolves competed in the SAJL Women’s Tackle Football SM League, where they started to write their own history as a group of tough and determined women with nerves of steel as they faced much more experienced teams. In my opinion, the She-Wolves are playing a major role in the advancement of our organization, and the advancement for women all over Finland playing American football.
2011 is already here, and by the looks of things this could be our greatest year so far. The men’s and women’s teams have been in off season training since November, and I can promise that they will bring some significant surprises for our opponents this season. This year we will also introduce our first Joensuu Wolves Juniors team, which will play in the SAJL U19 B-Juniors Division. We are very excited about building our programs from the bottom up with local youth, and we look forward to introducing them to the world of American football. They will be the key to our longevity in this league, and will surely be the stars of the future for the Wolves.
As our organization continues to move forward at record pace I must admit that all of the hard work is well worth it. Our Board of Directors is strong, our Coaching Staff is driven, our Sponsors are dedicated, our Fans are loyal and our Players are very hungry for championships. Even though we have come so far so fast and exceeded so many expectations, we are just getting started. See you at the games!
